Rachel: A Community Portrait
Rachel is on the left with her twin sister.
The Communications Committee is starting a series of community portraits, with the aim to build connections across our growing community of Old Mainers, Young Mainers, New Mainers and anyone else residing in the Mid-Coast area of Maine.
The first portrait is of Rachel. Please leave a reaction to the story, say hi, ask a question, share your favorit food, or anything in between.
Rachel grew up in Ouagadougou, in Burkina Faso. When we connected last month, we chatted a bit about the delicious grilled fish that we both have eaten on the outskirts of the city (see photo). Rachel’s favourite month is September, when she goes to Franconia, New Hampshire with family and friends to enjoy the mountains, hiking and the fresh air. She also brings her kids apple picking when she’s there.
Rachel smiles a lot, but asked about something that makes her happy she mentioned her daughter who does funny little teater sketches or reenacts something they have seen on the TV – she can’t help but laugh with her daughter as her impersonations are so accurate. She also mentioned that her twin sister often makes her smile.
Rachel is a great chef, and enjoys cooking food from lots of different cuisines. When we spoke she described a dish she had recently made with potatoes, tomatoes, green beans and meat – it sounded really delicious.
We’re thankful to have Rachel and her uplifting smile part of our growing Mid-Coast New Mainer community.
